Welcome to the WDPS Web Site

The Walthamstow and District Photographic Society (WDPS) meet most Mondays at 8-10pm in Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, 4 Greenleaf Road, Walthamstow, London E17 6QQ, in North East London. Anybody with an interest in the art of the photograph and or the science of photography is welcome to join the society. No preference is given to any particular photographic genre such as landscape, portrait, natural history, macro, travel, documentary photography - all types of photographers are welcome with any type of camera that they may use.

Prospective members of the WDPS are always welcome to visit the society, on any Monday evening, for up to three occasions before becoming members, no matter where they live either in North or East London such as Walthamstow, Chingford, Leyton, Leytonstone, Wanstead or other areas of Waltham Forest, Hackney or Redbridge, London Boroughs, in fact members do live all over North East London and Essex. Free Admission. Refreshments are available during the interlude at approximately 9pm

On the basis of some loving and profound research into the Society's history done by Chas Willmot, Albert Bale, one of the longest-standing members of this North East London Photographic Society, WDPS, produced a souvenir brochure for the Society's centenary celebrations in 1994. The "digital revolution" was still very much in its infancy when Albert produced the brochure. The brochure text has been reproduced unaltered to illustrate how much photography has changed (and how much it has remained the same) over ten years as well as over hundred-ten years:
Walthamstow Photographic Society, later to be renamed Walthamstow and District Photographic Society, was established on 20th June 1894.
